About the Institute

At the Trauma-Informed Arts Institute, we empower artists, educators, and arts leaders to create safer, more inclusive creative spaces through trauma-informed, consent-forward, and relationally grounded practices. We believe that creative expression and psychological safety are not at odds, but in deep and necessary partnership.

We equip educators, artists, and arts leaders with the tools to create brave spaces—where young people, professionals, and entire communities can take risks, tell stories, and make meaning without sacrificing their wellbeing. Our work is rooted in the belief that consent is creative, care is rigorous, and that the arts—when taught with intention—can be a site of healing, connection, and transformation.

Through research-based training, policy consultation, and arts education leadership, we are helping rewrite the norms of teaching, directing, and performing—centering safety not as a limitation, but as the very condition that makes bold artistry possible.

We are here to help schools, arts organizations, freelance artists, arts leaders and cultural institutions imagine new ways forward—because when we protect the people, the work thrives.
